In Satellite Map 01, Theresa Wingert builds the image through layered fields of Japanese silk tissue, ink, and vinyl paint, producing forms that register at once as mineral, topographic, and abstract. Translucent greens, grays, and blue-green passages are set against dense black and sharp interventions of acid yellow, giving the work both depth and graphic precision.
The monotype process is central to the work’s effect: color is absorbed into and compressed through the paper surface, creating a saturation and translucency that painting alone does not produce. The result is a composition that feels spatially complex and materially exacting, suspended between map, fragment, and invented terrain.
