Theresa Wingert

Theresa Wingert is a multidisciplinary artist working across printmaking, photography, film, sculpture, and immersive installation. Based between Seattle and Los Angeles, her practice is grounded in an ongoing investigation of image, material, memory, and the ways meaning shifts across still, moving, and spatial forms.

Wingert holds a BFA in Printmaking from Western Washington University and began her practice with works on paper, including intaglio and monotype. That foundation in process, layering, and the physical construction of an image continues to inform her broader work. Alongside her studio practice, she has developed an extensive career as a director of commercials, music videos, and short films, bringing a sophisticated understanding of framing, movement, sequence, and visual narrative back into her work as an artist.

Her recent monotype series, Things We Carry, considers memory through layered processes including chine-collé. Translucent passages, compressed color, and abstract forms create images that suggest fragments, objects, and impressions held over time. The works retain the material specificity of printmaking while reflecting Wingert’s broader interest in perception, recollection, and the instability of the image.

Across media, Wingert approaches each project as a site of convergence between visual language, physical material, and experience. She is the founder of The Grass Is Unbelievably Warm, an experimental platform for immersive and interdisciplinary work. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in corporate and private collections. She has also served on the boards of On the Boards and the Center on Contemporary Art (CoCA) in Seattle.
