Adam Bentz

Adam Bentz is an American artist and designer based in Seattle, Washington. Working primarily through sculptural form and materially driven fabrication, his practice draws from the natural world and from an ongoing investigation of movement, balance, proportion, and space. Subtle shifts in mass and tension shape the way his works occupy their surroundings, often emphasizing the relationship between positive and negative space and the ways perception changes through movement around an object.

Bentz’s technical foundation was formed through Seattle’s Wood Technology Center, followed by a ten-year journeyman apprenticeship that grounded his practice in fine woodworking, traditional handwork, and contemporary fabrication. That training continues to inform a materially precise approach in which grain, structure, joinery, and finish are integral to the conception of each work.

His process moves between intuition and calculation. Some forms are resolved through careful planning; others emerge through iteration, experimentation, and direct engagement with material. Across both approaches, Bentz allows construction and material behavior to remain legible, creating works that feel intentional and graceful.

Bentz’s work often occupies the territory between sculpture, furniture, and architectural object. He develops pieces for exhibition as well as private commissions and site-responsive collaborations with collectors, designers, and architects, creating works intended to exist in sustained dialogue with the spaces they inhabit.
