Vidar's Revenge

Balder takes its subject from the luminous Norse god associated with wisdom, gentleness, and beauty. His death marks one of the great thresholds of the mythic cycle, yet his story does not end with Ragnarök: Balder returns to the renewed world, reconciled with Höðr.

Backhaus-Brown & Egeværk give that arc of loss and return an unusually serene material presence. A pale green glass hull, cut with battuto, rests within a finely drawn oak keel whose elongated lines rise with quiet grace. The restrained palette and openness of the form lend the sculpture a sense of clarity and renewal—an object shaped as much by what follows catastrophe as by the myth that precedes it.
