Superchunk: Dusk

A dusky, sultry variation on Kovel’s billet-encrusted vessel form, this work layers smoky violet, plum, amber, and deep red across a luminous blown-glass body. Hand-broken chunks of colored glass billet—typically used as raw material for melting color into glass—are instead applied intact, catching and refracting light in unexpected flashes across the surface.

Kovel again treats the vessel as sculptural armature rather than function, building outward through accumulation, irregularity, and deliberate excess. The result is seductive and slightly unruly, with a jewel-like intensity that makes the work a particularly strong expression of her Punk-Luxe sensibility.
