Peter Bowles
Quiescent Objects series
In this larger-scale work from his Quiescent Objects series, Peter Bowles extends his investigation into glass chemistry, light, and optical perception. Concentric rings of pale blue and opalescent glass create an illusion of depth, drawing the eye toward a luminous central opening.
The increased scale makes the technical achievement particularly compelling. Bowles's precise control of glass composition, thickness, and transitions between translucency and opacity becomes increasingly demanding at this size. The resulting sculpture balances considerable material complexity with an exceptional clarity and restraint of form.
Medium: Formulated striking phosphate opal glass overlaid with opaque glass; blown, cut, and hand-pumice finished.
Dimensions: 185 × 185 × 125 mm (7.3 × 7.3 × 4.9 in)
