Cooper’s Hawk in the Blossoms

Sarah Norsworthy approaches landscape as an accumulation of observation over time. Working slowly in oil, she builds the image through repeated acts of looking, allowing shifts in light, atmosphere, weather, and perception to enter the painting as the experience of the site changes.

In this sense, the work recalls an Impressionist understanding of landscape as temporal rather than fixed. Color, vegetation, and spatial relationships are developed incrementally, creating a layered record of natural phenomena as they unfold. The resulting image holds multiple moments at once: observed, remembered, and continuously revised through paint.
