Apple (Anniversary Piece)

Apple Anniversary Piece draws on the Norse myth of Iðunn, guardian of the apples that preserve the gods’ youth. When she and the fruit are stolen through Loki’s deception, the Æsir begin to age; their immortality is revealed as something precarious, dependent on the recovery of what has been lost.

Backhaus-Brown & Egeværk transform this story of desire, mortality, and renewal into sculptural form, allowing glass and oak to carry the narrative through material, balance, and line. The work holds the apple not simply as a symbol of abundance, but as a measure of time itself—life extended, interrupted, and restored.
