Joe Shlichta — Large Oil Painting

In this large-scale oil painting, Joe Shlichta depicts a boat caught in rough water, its structure partially obscured by the movement of the sea. Broad white strokes describe breaking water against a palette of deep blue, green, gray, and warm earth tones.

Shlichta paints largely from memory, developing the image directly on the canvas. Areas of recognizable landscape and object emerge from, and sometimes dissolve back into, passages of color and geometric form.
